After completing our LCQ Online Course you will gain the License Controller Qualification (LCQ), needed when applying to get a Manager’s Certificate. A Duty Manager in any establishment that sells or supplies alcohol must have a Managers Certificate. This course will give you a good understanding of the law and host responsibility as related to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

Our LCQ online course is perfect for anyone who wants to get qualified in the convenience of their own home or workplace, but still wants the benefits of the classroom environment. A chance to ask questions relevant to your workplace or clarify understanding.
These courses are delivered by expert tutors in an interactive environment through Zoom. You will be sent our Managers Guide to Sale and Supply of Alcohol Manual, and are also provided with a recording of the training session once it is finished.
The online LCQ course is delivered in one day and usually runs from 9:45am to 3:30pm. You have two weeks to complete the exam online whenever you are ready.
Price $250 includes: manual, postage, access to Zoom video recording, qualification and GST.
LCQ Distance Learning Course
The Distance Learning Course is great for independent learners who prefer to study at their own pace, or can’t attend a classroom course. Also great for motivated people who need to get certified urgently.
As soon as we receive your payment, the course manual is sent to you by courier. We’ll email you access to the online course so you can get started straight away. In this email you will choose a study plan. There are three plans to choose from: Fastest, Steady and Easy.
Work through the five modules online, completing the topic quizzes as you go. – Resources available include your training manual, online training videos and PowerPoints. There is space to make your own notes in the manual as you work through the course. Reading through the manual and answering each module revision, is handy for quiet periods at work when you have no computer access.
Once you have completed all topic quizzes, the online exam is automatically unlocked. You can then complete the assessment when it suits you within two weeks. The course and exam can be completed on computer, tablet or smart phone.

Course Content
This course covers the following 2 Unit Standards which make up the official Licence Controller Qualification:
- Unit Standard 4646 Demonstrate knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act and its implications for the operation of licensed premises
- Unit Standard 16705 Demonstrate knowledge of host responsibility requirements as a Duty Manager of licensed premises.
We are NZQA accredited and on completion you will be awarded with the official Licence Controller Qualification. This is a requirement for obtaining your Manager’s Certificate with the council.
During the course, the following topics will be covered:
- Legal requirements, offenses and penalties around serving alcohol
- Host Responsibility
- Duty manager and server responsibilities
- Creating a safe drinking environment
- How to identify intoxicated patrons and techniques for assessing their intoxication levels
- Server techniques of dealing with intoxicated patrons and maintaining customer and staff safety
- Application and renewal process for managers certificates
What happens once I register?
An automatic registration confirmation email is sent. (If you don’t receive this after a couple of minutes, your email address may have a typo) The email includes the following:
- Zoom Link, Date & Time Information or Distance Learning Information, course access is sent manually once payment is received
- What to get ready for the course
- A Tax Invoice for your records is included as part of the email near the bottom of the email .
- The cost of the course and bank account number to pay by Internet Banking is near the bottom in red writing. Or pay by credit card using the Payment button (Credit Card Fee applies).
